Post-trip learning points - No matter which country you are heading to, always adapt to the culture of the country.
- Adapt, but don’t change.
- Keep your values and integrity.
- Don’t possess the complaining spirit. Learn to accept the things as it is. You may even turn it around for your own good.
- Have an open mind.
- You need to have the right compensation policies to retain employees. Otherwise they may feel that giving more than they are receiving and may feel unhappy about it.
- We need to have the right people for the right job.
- “Guan Xi” and “Mian Zi” are important in China. However, they are more significant in the less developed areas.
- Price and quality goes hand-in-hand.
- Learn by asking more questions.
- In order to survive in the market, we need to look the long run. Always think far.
- Price is not a long term solution to problems. It just only can help to penetrate the market in the beginning.
- To have a good attitude is an edge in China.
- China people are poor so they may have the attitude to work harder than Singaporeans; as they need the money.
- Be hungry for success. Never give up.
- “Guan Xi” is knowing people and knowing that you can find them one day when you are in trouble. It is not always running to the same person when you are in trouble.
- Product has to adaptable to the market.
- To have trustworthy partners is important.
- Rather than producing goods that others have, produce things that others don’t have.
- Know the proper language of the country that you are going so that you won’t suffer any communication breakdown.
- International business is more difficult than doing domestic business.
